The A. E. Phillips general music program for kindergarten through fifth grades consists of increasing listening skills through listening to great composer works, music reading of rhythms and pitches, and movement.  The instruction is primarily Kodaly method based.  Each class performs a musical or program for parents and students during each school year.

Sixth Grade performs a Renaissance dinner to begin the holiday season in late November.  The eighth grade performs a Broadway Jr. musical each school year in May.  The school productions are a scaffolding effort in which students develop performance skills and become more comfortable in front of an audience.

The A. E. Phillips Choir is a performance group open to third-eighth grade students.  The choir sings a variety of selections, from classical to popular.  The choir sings at many functions in the community during the school year, culminating in Festival during the spring.  Many AEP students also participate in All-State Choir and Honor Choir each year.  The school choir is available to all interested students, while All-State and Honor choirs are by audition.
